Spinal cord

The spinal portion of the central nervous system.

The diameter of the spinal cord and medulla is less than 2 centimeters.

A stroke or tumor of only a few millimeters will usually affect several neurologic functions because of the high density of important nervous system communication tracts that pass through the lower brainstem and upper spinal cord.
